In late September St. Johann in Tirol holds the festival of festivals,
in honour of the dumpling! The centre feature is
the longest dumpling table in the world (
„Knödeltisch"), stretching 300meters through the town, from the Marktplatz to the Speckbacherstraße.
More than 22,000 dumpling were eated in St. Johann in Tirol.
Types of dumpling served at the Knödelfest:
Speckknödel, Press- und Kasknödel (cheese) "Schwammerlknödel" (mushroom), "Rauchkuchlknödel" (smoked bacon + garlic), Leber- und Grammelknödel, Spinatknödel, Fastenknödel, Bratknödel, Salamiknödel (Tip!), Almererknödel (bacon, cheese + onion), Semmelknödel, Kaiserknödel (bacon, wild mushrooms), Topfen-, Marillen- Zwetschken- und Germknödel, Schoko-Vanille-Knödel und Andreas-Hofer-Knödel (chocolate and marzipan).
