KITZBÜHELER ALPEN: AUSTRIA'S BEST MOUNTAIN, BIKING AND SCENIC EXPERIENCE
The authentic Tyrolean holiday region the Kitzbüheler Alpen surrounds the world renowned sports town of Kitzbühel. The new motto “simply great” sums up the many qualities of the Brixental, Hohe Salve and St. Johann in Tirol areas. Set into a backdrop of lush grassy mountains and impressive chalk mas-sifs, these three destinations excel with their adventure worlds and great hospi-tality in the mountains as well as their traditions, modern-day lifestyle and gourmet cuisine in the valley. 2500km of signposted routes make the Kitz-büheler Alpen one of Austria’s most popular hiking regions. 1800km of cycle and mountain bike routes have helped to raise this region to the status of “ap-proved bike area”. Those who prefer a little tailwind help to reach the summits can make use of the 1000km of fantastic electro-bike trails. Thanks to the 25 themed hikes, water experiences, barefoot trails and ten mountain adven-ture worlds the whole mountain area is opened up to families. The Kitzbüheler Alpen tourist region is accessible by car from Germany via the Kufstein motor-way exit without the need to purchase a Vignette. The three airports of Salz-burg, Munich and Innsbruck are all within easy distance of the area.

Atmospheric, Sporty, Culinary: Summer in the Kitzbüheler Alpen

For many years the Kitzbüheler Alpen have been the wildly romantic and origi-nal backdrop for the ever popular TV series “Soko Kitzbühel” and “Der Berg-doktor”. Aside from the wonderful landscape, this is also largely thanks to the farming culture, the beautiful old farmsteads, genuine national costume, craft-work and valued traditions, which all feature in everyday modern life. The Kitz-büheler Alpen summer calender is made up of mountain spring festivals, mid-summer parties, Tyrolean evenings, summer nights, farming home-comings and  autumn celebrations. The many sporting events have also be-come a standing part of tradition in the region: The Cordial Cup (17.–20.05.13), the KitzAlpBike Festival (26.06.–07.07.13) and the Rad-Weltpokal (24.–31.08.13) are just three of the larger events. Culinary enthusiasts have some-thing special to get their teeth into at the Knödelfest (21.09.13) in St. Johann and the Brezensuppenfest (23.06.13) in Wörgl. As part of the  summer week-ly programme guests have the opportunity to hike their way to tradition and cooking culture – at an “Alm breakfast”, on the culinary farmstead tour, a herbal hike or a cheese tasting session on the mountain pastures. The Kitzbüheler Alpen also boast any number of well-established Tyrolean guest-houses, still serving up true “Tyrolean recipes”– from Bauernkrapfen , Kaspressknödel to Tiroler Gröstl. In the Brixental there are many KochArt-restaurants, offering new interpretations of old recipes with produce from the local area. The “old fashioned cuisine” does not exempt it from gourmet quality and Michelin stars. schließt aber Hauben und Sterne nicht aus. With  three Gault-Millau stars (18 points) the top cuisine in the Kitzbüheler Alpen is to be found at the “Rosengarten” Restaurant of Simon Taxacher in Kir-chberg. The Gasthof zum Dampfl, one of the oldest guesthouses in St. Johann is also a star rated restaurant. Andi Lechner from Fieberbrunn has run the tradi-tional inn since October 2011 with his wife Bianca – with a passion for local produce and quality Austrian wines.
