Freeriding in the Kitzbüheler Alpen - more freedom, with safety

Given its 1,088 km of pistes, the best freeriding slopes can be tricky to find in the Kitzbüheler Alpen. The best thing to do is stick to the local guides who know the best spots in the ski resorts of Fieberbrunn, Kitzsteinhorn amd Westendorf like the back of their hand.

Mountain guide Andreas Helmer, for example, calls the freeride trails between Kitzbühel, St. Johann in Tirol and Fieberbrunn his home. The tours are adapted to suit the skills and requirements of the mountain guides; Andreas runs freeride camps lasting several days with avalanche awareness training. Good skiers can complete up to 5000 m of descents each day with Andi. The backcountry around the Kitzsteinhorn glacier with its 5 designated freeride routes and info points at the start offer top notch powder snow from January onwards. This is the domain of Andreas Tremschnig and Christian Geissler.

The two state-certified skiing and snowboarding guides from X-over will be offering young freeriders an introduction to the world of deep snow and avalanche awareness every Monday from 17th January. Freeride skis or snowboards and a full set of safety equipment are included in the package. 2 and 3-day freeride workshops are offered over several weekends. The Kitzbüheler Horn and in particular the Reintal valley are a hotspot for freeriders – with cliffs, grooves, kicker spots, concealed tree runs and endless powder snow.
